Garbage Collection

Republic Services

The City of Sanctuary has contracted with Republic Services to provide the collection and disposal of residential, commercial and industrial garbage and recycling materials within the city limits of Sanctuary. This contract prohibits any other company from collecting and disposing of all residential and commercial acceptable waste and recyclable materials within the city limits.

Schedule

Residential garbage service is once weekly and recycling collection is once weekly for all residential customers inside the City limits, on Thursday. Garbage service will need to be established by calling Republic Services at (800) 333-7301, after the account is established (2) polycarts for garbage and (1) polycart for recycle will be delivered to residence and service will begin the following week. You will be invoiced quarterly directly by Republic Services.

Garbage must be placed at curbside by 7:00 am to ensure pick up and may not be placed for collection earlier than 7 p.m. the day before the scheduled day for collection. Each residential customer must use polycarts provided by Republic Services for garbage and recycle.

Service Guidelines

Place polycarts out on Thursday prior to 7:00am. Bulk items up to (2) cubic yards can also be placed next to carts on service day including furniture, hot water heaters, etc. Brush and tree limbs must be tied in bundles not to exceed 4 feet (4’) in length and 50 pounds in weight. All vines and thorny bushes must be placed in disposable containers.

If you have questions about what items can or cannot be collected, check with Republic Services at 800-333-7301 BEFORE you take items to the curb.

Important Note: In accordance with Federal laws, items containing freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners, must be properly discharged and tagged before collection. Contact a State licensed technician. Search under “Air Conditioning”. 

City Recycling

Place recycle carts/bins at curbside by 7 a.m. on collection days to ensure pick-up. Residents may set out additional materials, such as broken-down corrugated cardboard or newspapers in paper bags or bundles, next to the cart or under the bin. Please do not set paper or cardboard products outside your recycle container if it is raining or rain is forecast.

  • Containers that have been contaminated with food products such as meat cartons and pizza boxes

  • Styrofoam including Packaging Peanuts
  • Ceramic Cookware
  • Tissue Paper
  • Plastic Bags
  • Shredded Paper

Our contract calls for each household to receive up to 2 trash carts and 1 recycling bin.  If you only have one trash cart and wish to receive another trash cart, please email [email protected] to ask for the 2nd cart-let her know you are in Sanctuary.
